7 Grocery Stores

If you haven’t figured it out already, Lakewood Ranch is HUGE! 

There’s Lakewood Ranch North, South, and the middle in between. 

You have everything you need and want inside Lakewood Ranch, including plenty of grocery stores. 

There are currently 6 Publix stores and 1 Winn Dixie. There’s also a Whole Foods nearby at University Town Center (just outside of the Lakewood Ranch area in Sarasota).

You will likely live near one of these stores, so you won’t have to travel too far just to get groceries. 

So if you want to live out in the boonies, away from everyone and everything, Lakewood Ranch is probably not for you 🙂

New Resident Orientation

When you are new to Lakewood Ranch, you are not just left alone to figure everything out on their own.

New residents have several options to learn the area and make new friends.

The goal is to learn how to really take advantage of everything Lakewood Ranch has to offer them.

A New Resident Orientation called LWR 101 is held virtually every month to help get you informed. 

You will learn how the government works in Lakewood Ranch, the Community Districts (CDDs), all of the groups and organizations that fuel growth and life in the area, our main attractions and much more.

You don’t even have to leave home. You can watch it virtually from your couch.

But you are encouraged to register so you can get special offers from local businesses and community sponsors after the event. 

Newcomers Meetup

A newcomers meetup is held once a month in various parks throughout Lakewood Ranch.

These meetups are a great way to meet local residents, other newcomers and get to know the area parks at the same time.

Both events are completely free for Lakewood Ranch residents.

Ranch Nite Wednesdays

Ranch Nite Wednesdays are one of the several weekly traditions you can depend on at Lakewood Ranch.

Every Wednesday night from October to May, you will find a huge block party at Waterside Place.

Ranch Nite is where The streets of Waterside Place become one big block party filled with live music, cornhole, local food trucks and restaurants, multiple drink options and a local market.

Farmer’s Market Sundays

The Lakewood Ranch Farmer’s Market is another weekly tradition event in Lakewood Ranch.

Where the streets of Waterside become another huge black party and local festival all in one every Sunday.

You’ll find everything you’d expect from a market and festival. Organic veggies, fruits and produce and fresh goods for the week. 

And live music, locally handmade goods, and food from local restaurants and food trucks. There is even an activity corner created just for kids.

The Farmer’s Market is The place to be on Sundays. Every Sunday, all year long. 

Farmer’s Market info: Sundays. 10 am – 2 pm. Location at Waterside. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a short leash. No coolers or outside food or drinks are allowed.

Farmer’s Market tips: Start your day out with Yoga in Waterside Park at 9 am. Then take the short walk over the bridge to the Farmer’s Market. You will already have your parking spot for the day 🙂

Music on Main First Fridays

Music on Main is a music concert series in downtown Lakewood Ranch on Main Street the first Friday of every month. 

Lakewood Ranch Main Street is blocked off from cars to allow residents and guests to mingle in the streets while listening to great live music and enjoying food from local restaurants. 

Every month features live music from different local artists and bands. All you need to bring is yourself and your chairs to take in the free 3-hour music performance.

The best thing about these free concerts is that all beer and wine proceeds are donated to local non-profit organizations. This is the biggest reason to support this Lakewood Ranch event. 

Music on Main info: First Friday of Every Month. 6 – 9 pm. Location at Main Street. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a short leash. No coolers or outside food or drinks allowed.

Located just minutes from Waterside, you’ll find thousands of fans watching the amazing sport of polo, tailgate style. 

You can bring your own food and beverages. And there will be options to buy food and drinks on site.

In addition to a constant stream of activities and events to attend and be active with, Lakewood Ranch also has about 60 clubs that residents can join.

Popular Lakewood Ranch Town Centers

Lakewood Ranch is built with living, working, playing, and dining in mind.

Waterside Place Town Center

Waterside is the newest and hottest lakefront 36-acre town center in Lakewood Ranch.

Located in South Lakewood Ranch, Waterside Place is built around Kingfisher Lake. Kingfisher Lake offers waterfront views, gorgeous sunsets on summer nights, and the feeling of living on the coast (without the extra stress).  

Waterside Place offers retail space mixed with apartments in an open-air environment and local restaurants, stores, and walkable living in the same area. 

Waterside Park offers Yoga and other recreational opportunities around the lake, while Waterside is home to some of the popular events offered in Lakewood Ranch. E.g. Wednesday Ranch Nite, Sunday Farmer’s Market, and Sunset Volleyball.

The best part about Waterside is that it is connected to the 150-mile trail system built within Lakewood Ranch. So you can live in any of the neighborhoods nearby and walk or bike to Waterside. 

Main Street Town Center

Main Street is Lakewood Ranch’s first and original town center. Also referred to as Downtown. 

It’s another cute open-air town area with shops, boutiques, restaurants, stores, local businesses, and a few of Lakewood Ranch’s main attractions:

  • Lakewood Ranch Welcome Center
  • Fish Hole Miniature Golf
  • Lakewood Ranch Movie Theater

Main Street even has its own lake views too. It is part of a 153-acre lake in Lakewood Ranch called Lake Uihlein. 

Like Waterside, Main Street is also located in South Lakewood Ranch but is northwest of Waterside. (Waterside is further south than Main Street.)

This is another area where you will find happening events, fun block parties, and places to hang out. 

The Green Town Center

The Green is a 37-acre town center located in North Lakewood Ranch. 

You’ll find a mix of national retail chains, including a Publix grocery store and additional stores, restaurants, and services.

Sarasota Polo Club

We mentioned Polo Match Sundays as a popular Lakewood Ranch event earlier in this guide. 

Located in South Lakewood Ranch, the Sarasota Polo Club is one of the largest polo communities in the world.

Spanning across 170 acres, the polo club facilities include everything from:

  • 45 private equestrian estates

Lakewood Ranch Cinemas is a unique movie theater in downtown.

It is run by the Sarasota Film Society, a nonprofit that focuses on bringing art films to the Lakewood Ranch and Sarasota areas.

It is operated in conjunction with the nearby Burns Court movie theater in (what part of) Sarasota.

One of its big draws is the snack bar, where guests can enjoy a beer or a glass of wine. The restrooms are not as modern as they could be, but they do the job.

Premier Sports Campus

The Premier Sports Campus is an 140 acre outdoor venue with 22 full-sized, mixed-use sports fields.

This attraction is home to the Lakewood Ranch Chargers Soccer Club and is popular for soccer, lacrosse, and football games.

The campus features an underground irrigation system for efficient water drainage, bathrooms, and 8 lighted fields for nighttime play.

The Premier Sports Campus is located just minutes from Lakewood Ranch Main Street and Town Center ?  You will also see special events and festivals and movie nights hosted here.

Future expansion plans include a softball complex and a racquet sports complex.

If you are a soccer fan, this is the place to go for a game or 3.

Largest Cornhole League 

Cornhole is a BIG recreational activity in Lakewood Ranch. 

There is even a cornhole area right next to Good Liquid Brewing Company in Waterside Place. When the league is not playing, the outdoor cornhole area is open for free-play!

Lakewood Ranch has the largest recreational cornhole league in the nation. Hosted by MVP Sports and Social Club, the coed adult cornhole league plays on Ranch Nite Wednesdays at Waterside Place.

It’s a great way to make new friends and have fun at the same time. Nothing like some friendly competition while you have a locally brewed beer in hand.

You can learn how to play cornhole through one of the free activities hosted by LWRAC.
